Audio Visual Installation | 2024
»Click«— the smallest digital utterance, by itself a flaw, a sign of trouble or neglect. But compounded, allowed to fester in a system that is fertile with its own resonances, a natively digital voice can emerge from it, richer than a human mind would likely conceive alone. A seemingly insignificant glitch, a whisper of malfunction, becomes the seed of a complex and resonant digital voice.
This work is built in TouchDesigner and Pure Data, exploring the use of noise and feedback systems to invoke organic visuals and audio resembling natural processes. Part of the code began as a demo for students, in this case, for glitch art, trying to make the most complex things emerge from the simplest, most hands-off system with the least (direct) human intervention. In concert, the performer wrestles with it more like a conductor than a keyboardist, making guesses and shaping its flow rather than triggering sound events instantly.
Presented at the SPAM NEW MEDIA Festival in the Georgetown Steam Plant (Seattle Washington). Exhibited as a 15 minute long performance and an ongoing installation within the steam plant.
